Where I'm at on this audio adventure....
Been doing this for twenty years now and at this point I'm only interested in a few things.
Hand wired tube amps. I collect great music, not recordings. Not interested in "cable of month" so I use Kimber almost exclusively. Ray Kimber is the real deal. Don't ever travel without my iPod. Still love my Apogees, if only you could run them with a 15 watt amp........ Anyone else care to share their journey? Chris Last edited by CRJCapt; 10-15-2013 at 11:43 PM. |

I have been very passionate about music for the last 30 years and I am now a touch north of 40.
I put together my first serious music system (solid state based) in a dedicated listening room about 13 years ago which fell more to the analytical side but provided me much enjoyment. I added a VPI SSM in 2010 and my vinyl listening went from about 25% to about 75% of the time. I think at this time I started to appreciate qualities like tone and warmth over slam and bass extension, etc.... Over the past year +, I heard a number of tube base systems that blew me away. So in May I made a change from a Krell KAV-500i to Cary 211FEs and an SLP-05. I have had a huge grin on my face ever since. I too am not a subscriber to the cable of the month club nor do I make system changes often. I find that most of my music listening is done from the sweet spot in front of my system. Although I do listent to quite a bit of XM radio (XMU in particular). Rarely listen to music via portable headphones. I probably casually listen to less, but seriously listen to more than I did 10 years ago. |

35 for me. I am hoping the Ultimate Mod on my SLI-80 will finish off my Tube needs. Still building out my SS rig with Simaudio Moon Neo gear.

Bought my first piece of tip-notch gear (Sony STR-6200F receiver) in 1969 and been at it since then. Can't imagine owning an ipod or any other form of portable music other than CDs and analog FM. Tried Sirius and found it repetitive, boring and poor fidelity.
But, why in the Cary forum?
