Kevin, I currently run my Sophia 2s with a tube pre-amp and a SS amp (600 watts/4 ohms). I previously used a solid state preamp. The current rig has great detail and sublime midrange. The prior rig was a tick or two down on midrange, but had rock solid bass. I now also use subs and an active cross-over, so slightly softer bass is not an issue any longer.
I think the real issue is going to be current delivery rather than a discrete wattage measurement. Your McIntosh integrated is going to have great current delivery. I think 300 watts will be plenty. And with autoformers the impedance dip should not be a problem either. |

Thanks Randy. When I get to hear the MA7900 with them I'm hoping to be convinced. I really want these speakers. If not them, I'll be looking for used Sophia's.

I'll send you a pm Joey but we should pick a day you're free next week and you can join me. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I want to listen to the Sophia's too.

The Sophia 3 used the titanium focal tweeter.
I think we will see a Sophia 4 sooner than later as all the other models have the new soft done tweeter now. |
