Fair enuf. But as one who refuses to use emoticons and has been flamed for many a post meaning no offense, I know that dry wit is often misinterpreted on forums and in emails.

+1. If I were to have included a third label in my recommendations it would have been the Decca Legends Series of CDs. Stunning recordings and performances, some of which are truly "Legendary". I actually prefer most of the Decca recordings to the perhaps more famous in audiophile circles Mercury Living Presence CDs, although many of the Mercurys are quite wonderful too. Basically, you can build a wonderful collections of audiophile grade classical music (at discount prices, especially if you buy the box sets) without buying anything recorded later than say 1970. If you must have state of the art digital recording then look no further than Reference Recordings.

Reference Recordings offers limited repertoire (no Mahler #2 for example), but they are expanding their catalogue with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Fresh! SACD releases (not recorded by Keith Johnson though) |

Okay, so maybe it's just me... (And I can talk about me because I am me) , but I would have thought the "joint rolling" part would have easily and comfortably substituted for a 😜 or other similar emoji. I don't know, it seems like some folks may have been watching way too much "convention" TV (either party, doesn't matter). 😱 (⬅️ see, emoji). Now turn off that damn CNN (or Fox News or MSNBC) they will all dissolve your brain and your sense of humor; and put on a nice concerto. 😳

As to emoticons - the choice to use is a personal one however as a communication tool, their usefulness cannot be denied. |

A concerto would indeed be calming, but I have chosen Dvorak's Slavonic Dances and Overtures for this evening's listening pleasure. Delightful performances by Kubelik and the BRSO. Looking at the label and thinking about Ivan's nascent venture into the realm of classical, I ponder whether for 'artist' he would enter: Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, or Orchestre Symphonique de la Radiodiffusion Bavaroise ah, the simple pleasures of spinning..... |

Phaw!! Report back when you're half way through your new found enjoyment of LISTENING TO classical music and are ready to report which ones in particular strike your fancy.
You earn no points for merely RIPPING classical music (even if you do own the board). I suppose I should insert the emoticon with the scowl and wagging finger, but will abstain on principle. |
