Classical music to me, is life. While I grew up listening to Deep Purple, The Eagles, Iron Butterfly, etc, it was classical music that gave me a visceral thrill. I have fond memories of waving my arms furiously to a Beethoven symphony a a child, and, as a college music major in the early 1980's, I was the only person who always aced the listening portions of tests (the infamous drop the needle) in Music Literature and Music History...

I have gotten to hear the worlds great orchestras (New York, Cleveland, Chicago, Berlin, London Symphony and London Phil and many more) in the great concert halls of the world (Musikverein, Concertgebouw, etc)....I have heard fantastic high school and college orchestras as well.

Mahler is my favorite along with too many others to list. I love all classical music, from Medieval to modern. When I was in my undergrad days (and a serious trumpet jock) I hated chamber music, especially string quartet. I also love opera, especially those of Mozart, Puccini, Verdi and the big Romantic operas by Wagner and Richard Strauss....

Now, at age 51 (yes, people do finally grow up) my tastes have grown/matured?? to include a passion for chamber music....yes, string quartets.....

I love to hear people mention "old" rock or "old" jazz..when I can play an SACD called "Lost Songs of a Rhineland Harper" that features music nearly 1,000 years old!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA

Classical music ROCKS!!!!

Cheers,

What a great story. Thanks for sharing that.

Please join us on the http://www.audioaficionado.org/music...g-tonight.html thread.

We just reached 10,000 posts there and it would be great to get your take on your favorite recordings and why you like them. You'll get to meet very nice folks from all over the world who share your joy for classical music. That's where I spend most of my time on AA.

Very well said. Classical music brings out profound levels emotion in me that I are difficult to articulate. It also brings a clarity of thought and purpose. I can't imagine a day without devoting time to listen to music!
