Aah...70 minutes of tortured chromaticism.

Corelli: Concerti grossi
After hearing several "loud" orchestral pieces this afternoon, time to soothe the ear...
Corelli: Concerti grossi, Op. 6 (12, complete) The Avison Ensemble, Pavlo Beznosiuk As has been said on this thread many times, these are elegant performances played with plenty of elan by The Avison Ensemble. The Linn recording is excellent (but not quite at the level as those of the Handel Concerti grossi, Op. 6 set - not much is). |

May I suggest that you review the Eroica symphony conducted by Jordi Savall? I think it's a wonderful musical journey. Last edited by cma29; 10-26-2014 at 11:29 PM. |

Mahler: Symphony No. 2
Ok, back to some massive orchestral music...
Mahler: Symphony No. 2 in C minor 'Resurrection' Lisa Milne (soprano) & Birgit Remmert (alto) Budapest Festival Orchestra & The Hungarian Radio Choir, Iván Fischer One word summarizes the music, performance and the recorded sound for this set: stupendous. |

Bach - Goldberg Variations
Now something more low key to wind down the day...
Bach, J S: Goldberg Variations, BWV988 Sarabanda con partite, BWV 990 Aria Variata in A minor, BWV989 ‘alla Maniera Italiana' Matthew Halls (harpsichord) I enjoy this set with the Goldberg played on a harpsichord which I do prefer than played on a piano. The recorded sound has captured the ambiance and the character of the instrument extremely well. I find this to be very satisfying, except that the Goldberg is split over two discs. |

Julian, Thanks to you and everyone else for the warm reception. I want to comment on your Living Stereo logo - I have a large collection of Living Stereo cd's and sacd's. RCA was very special in their early stereo era heyday! I spend a lot of time listening to those recordings because they sound very natural to me and often have a great deal of the ambience from the concert halls used to make their recordings. Some of the remastered 50-year-old recordings sound better than many new recordings! Ted.
