dCS Bartok
I have been reading through the Bartok manual and trying to understand how it would work for me.
Would I use ethernet cable from the router to the Bartok and then log into Deezer right in the Mosaic app? If I connect my NAS to the router will Mosaic app see those high res files automatically? What sources have you guys used that have worked well. Thanks! |

Thanks Buck - how would you describe the differences between the Rossini and the Bartok? (A Rossini without transport and without separate clock). Is the steaming functionality similar in the two?

So I never A/B compared the two…..but I have used the Bartok when another AA membe on here did an in home demo. It was awhile ago but if I remember correctly, there really weren’t any operational differences between the two. I’d have to consult the Bartok manual to see if it has the number of features etc. like the filter settings etc. I’m pretty sure the streaming functionality is the same.

dCS Bartok
Ok I’m getting close to the finish line and am trying to decide if the extra 8k for the Rossini is money well spent. All this is subjective but is this a 5% improvement or a 25% improvement?

I'd say the difference is even greater than 25% - but how do you quantify these things, it's very subjective.
However, from a technical point of view: the streaming functionality of Bartok and Rossini is IDENTICAL, but the DAC part is different. While the design principles behind the Ring DAC are the same for both families, the Rossini runs a much newer version (2.0), at higher speeds. Also, if you were wondering: I've been given to understand that a Rossini > Bartok, even with external (Rossini) clock. |

Ok have a Rossini on the way. I’m thinking through where to place it in the stack. Does it run hot or pretty cool to the touch?

I’m following this thread with interest.
The Rossini has been one DAC I’d love to hear. I prefer a “warmer” sound so I’m not sure it’s for me. How would you describe the Rossini sound signature.

Hey Jason, I would characterize it as pretty much down the middle but if I had to pick one side I would say it's on the warmer side of 50/50. A couple of years ago, myself and AA members Tim and Steve did a side by side comparison of the Bartok and the nice Bricasti DAC of equal price. We all thought the dCS was slightly warmer and more analog sounding while the Bricasti was a bit more revealing and detailed, but keep in mind, splitting hairs here. Some music sounded better on the dCS and some on the Bricasti. The Rossini definitely takes it up a notch from both of those. I've also read (and heard) that many dCS fans prefer the Rossini stack to the Vivaldi stack as the Rossini comes off as slightly more musical. I have never heard the slightest bit of digital harshness from mine. Another point it that dCS allows you to choose from multiple digital filters which can tailor the sound to your liking, although the differences are slight. The Rossini also gives you a lot of flexibility with inputs......you can use it as a digital pre if ever needed, ability to add the external clock and my main reason, the dual AES inputs which allow it to receive a direct DSD signal from dCS's SACD Rossini transport which was a big deal to me since I have a lot of SACDs.
