That is pretty neat. I wish I could do that to my Sony LCD. I did some research and had to use the settings someone posted after he paid some calibrators for his XBR.

Having a certified calibration done on your Sony is the best $ you can spend.

There is so much variation set-to-set that copying somebody else's settings probably won't get you full performance from your video display.

Calibration is a great value. It makes a huge difference in most displays.

I just calibrated my JVC RS-50 for the second time. It has about 220 hrs on the lamp. The entire setup took about 5 hours, including the CMS and a couple of profiles. The first time I did it, I was still learning the beast. There are always tradeoffs to make, and a good calibrator who knows how the device really operates can do wonders.
I was able to dial in rec 709 spot on, and the greyscale is flat as a pancake.

The projector now looks stunning - better than it ever has. Images just pop off the screen.

Was it way off before? No. It had shifted to blue a bit, and the gamma had flattened out to less than 2, and the gamut was just slightly undersaturated in THX mode.

Ivan, you'll find you get better and better each time you do a cal. Man, the G90 is a beast.

If I remember, 9 zones of EM focus for each color, AQP/DQP and HQP in each zone, all interacting, with some zone to zone interaction. But, wow, you get a really tight beam spot size, and, I forgot, multi-point gamma for each color! Of course you don't have blue hump!!

I always spent most of my time with focus, and then really got green totally perfect in registration, then used the size/skew/bow/pin controls, and their balance partners, to nail convergance without using any zone. Then I'd go back and hit zone a few clicks, not more, as needed.

It took 8 -10 hours for me to do it start to finish.

Tom... I can still remember when I was first introduced to the G90, it was 11 years ago.

A few friends of mine in the Industry kept telling me I was a "G90 Guy". Back then they would ask full retail for them at $43K. I flipped out, but eventually folded (oh the pressure )

When the Cape Theater project came about it was a "No Brainer" that I would use the G90 again.

I also scooped up 2 brand new G90's that I still have in deep storage.

I even have a few new YA Boards w/ the infamous "Dallas Chip"

At the recent TAVES event in Toronto I attended the calibration seminar. It was really informative and I learnt a lot.

Essentially anyone who spends a good deal of money on an excellent TV has to get it calibrated properly or they're just not getting the best out of their TV.

This also explains why when I see these "amazing" HD TVs at peoples home they never have "amazing" picture quality.
