My new daily driver
Been deciding back and forth the last few months between a new 911 and the GTR, aka "Godzilla" for a daily driver. In the end, I really wanted an all wheel drive since I like them for all kinds of weather driving and prefer that for a daily. The new 911 C4S is still some 5-6 months away and they are getting pricey!
In the end, my Godzilla showed up (had a deposit for 5 months for a 2013 new model), I test drove it this morning and decided this is exactly what I want for a daily. 545 HP, 463 torque, blazing fast acceleration of 0-60 in under 3 sec, the GT-R hunkers down and rockets you forward with the thrust of a true super car. Not bad for a daily driver! It is actually very forgiving and compliant in the comfort mode and gets decent mileage of 19 mpg city at the same time. Flipping the switches on the dashboard to "R" mode for the suspension, dual clutch tranny and traction control unleashes the beast within. Heading out to some of the local twisties this afternoon, I realized this car is very special indeed. The handling is very crisp and well balanced and this car instills confidence much more so than usual as it seems to corner and handle a bit beyond the laws of physics... Dialing everything back down to normal and comfort modes, the car becomes as comfortable as any of the modern cars that are built for luxury and road comfort with even the rougher roads and dips being completely ironed out by compliant suspension. The Godzilla is very docile and tame enough to put up with traffic conditions but as soon as the road opens up or there is a nice set of curves up ahead.... the beast is awakened with just the slightest twitch of the right foot and should that foot get a bit more aggressive with the gas pedal.... Godzilla catapults you forward, reeling in the distance at an eye bulging pace ready to stomp and destroy anything in it's path... There are so many gadgets and features in this car that I will probably need a few weeks just to sort everything out. Full telemetry aboard, acceleration display, handling and G-force, braking force, boost, etc... etc... etc... That aspect of the car was actually designed by Polyphony Digital, the same guys that designed the Gran Turismo series of video games. It's nuts what you can do with all of it. Very impressive car. More impressions to come. Last edited by PHC1; 02-17-2012 at 08:46 PM. |

A few more shots after detailing the car for a few hours since I don't trust a Nissan dealer with that kind of stuff! It was delivered yesterday and was still wrapped in plastic this morning as well as all kinds of stickers with really sticky, gooey glue that took some real effort to clean off the glass on the inside.

It was also good to reminisce and take a trip down memory lane with the sales guy who has been with my local Nissan dealer for a while. I've been in Philadelphia area since '85. Throughout college and quite some time after, I have leased and purchased quite a few Nissan cars, always from that same dealership. I mentioned I bought a Nissan 200SX back in '86 and then at least a half a dozen Maxima's and Altima's for myself and my wife over the years. Then it was on to Toyota 4 Runners and a few other foreign cars including BMW and Mercedes so I haven't been back to the Nissan dealership in years!!!
It's funny how sometimes life takes you in a direction and then it seems you circle back to your "roots". |
