Post pictures please. Good luck!
Thank you 80B! Love the 802Ds - wonderful speakers - have had mine for over 10 years now. Will certainly post photos (but it'll take a couple of months as I need to finish house renovations first )

Going 2.1 would be my choice over a mix of speakers.
Thank you PHC1 - agree that if I go with a centre it has to be matched - so a little stuck on what that option may be... thank you for the advice!

The only center SF makes that would be close is the Amati Homage Vox. I am using it with Amati Futura’s and it is a perfect match. Might work well with the Aida’s. Anything less is certainly blasphemy. The phantom center sounds like an attractive option - my experience is varied. Unless you have omni radiators like MBL 101E it only works great for one person in the sweet spot.

Thank you W9TR - poking around online it does indeed seem that a phantom centre setup can be picky about seat position... will give the Homage Vox a test run and see how I go

Will do some experimentation to see if I can get comfortable with a phantom center - but am leaning to at least having the wiring ready for 5.1 so I can go either way

Sure thing.

If you are just wiring, I’d suggest you wire for 7.xx just in case.

I’m finishing my basement now so I wired for 7.4.

I have a couple fathoms, but will probably add another pair of subs down the road.

Wiring is fairly cheap now, but hard to do later depending on what your renovation entails.

Good luck!

Until now I have always had a 5.1 setup for movies so this would be a big departure - would appreciate thoughts on whether I should go with 2ch only - or try to find a center and rears that would fit (maybe from the Tradition series..?)

Any advice appreciated!
In this situation, there is going to be some sort of compromise no matter what. Personally, if I was determined to use the Aida IIs, I would have a 6.2 set up with all Aida II speakers. 3 at the front and 3 as surrounds. I would then mount a tv from the ceiling that would be tilted above the centre Aida II. When seated, I would recline so that I would be able to view the tv from an ideal angle. Not perfect, but for me it would be the best overall compromise if I was set on using the Aida IIs for home theatre.

You do realize that Aida II is 6’ tall; you would be looking up at the ceiling to watch TV.

Thank you greekgod - 6 Aidas would be a dream - but a long way outside my budget... I spent today switching between 5.1 and 2 channel for movies on my current system and was somewhat surprised to find I started to get used to the idea of a phantom centre - still early days though - will keep experimenting and see where I land!

Stick with the 2.0 for a couple of weeks straight to really get used to it, then switch back to 5.1. That should tell you if the transition to 5.1 with non-SF or non-Aida quality speakers is jarring or an improvement.

I've never tried my Aidas in my AV system but given their superb sound quality I'd be leery of pairing them with anything less than other SF speakers sharing the same or similar tweeter/midrange drivers.

Good luck with your experiments!
