A question for those who are using the S-1200 for 2-channel and HT: Are you using a subwoofer for both modes? The THX spec is for the x-over to be set at 80hz and speakers set to small for multichannel HT. It seems for 2-channel listening this isn't the best way to set the speakers. I have an S-1000 but quit using it for HT because it doesn't support any of the newer HD audio codecs and I wasn't willing to shell out the money for the S-1200U upgrade.

LuJr has the S-1200U and uses it for both 2-channel/HT along with a JL Sub.

Nostalgia reading threads about the Mark Levinson no 40,Denon AVP-a1hd, krell 707 and krell 1200

Seems with today’s modern home theatre processors the apples really have fallen far from the trees

I agree. I had the S1200 and now the 707. Most of the new processors are about bells and whistles. I tried the Krell foundation and didn’t like the sound quality. I was hoping that Krell would replace the 707. I think the return on investment is not there for most of the smaller high end companies. There is all sorts of licensing and loyalty fees. Chip manufacturers such as cirrus logic obsolete their product lines which forces manufacturers to redesign with limited engineering resources. Obsolescence in the digital world happens quickly and often.

The other thing that I have noticed is that more contents are released as streamed which in my opinion has poor sound and image quality compared to Blu-ray. I guess in the end a high end processor will be processing low quality content.

Indeed

In the words of Phil Leotardo

“ I wanted a home theatre processor that could give me awesome sound quality .
I compromised. I bought a made in China Marantz instead “

There’s a krell 707 on audiogon now but I’m in Australia so little chance it’d get here in one piece.

It’s surprising that the Krell 707 is still in high demand in the used market. Two channel music using its CAST outputs sounds really good. I switch back and forth between the 707 and ARC Ref 6 preamp.
