Preparing for move to Charlotte

I used it to strap the big Mc amp boxes for the two MC601's, MC452 and MC207. Also used for the B&W 802D2 speakers which were 187 plus pounds each boxed up (85kg). Rented a 10' x 20' climate controlled storage in Charlotte for $270/month. Paid $1k for a moving service to load up everything in a 20' truck, transport to Charlotte and unload into storage. Best $1k ever spent. The big news is we closed on the purchase of the Charlotte house this past Thursday and our house goes on the market this coming week. A lot happening quickly. Will stay in Greensboro until we sell here.

Congrats on the Charlotte house! Sounds like new construction? Similar situation here in Boston suburbs. Have decided to put this house on the market while deciding where to live next. Taking advantage of the seller advantage here. So, likely a long term storage situation while we explore options.

Curious: for new construction, I assume you have a negotiated final price? What is the percentage put down as 'earnest' money? or just a land purchase?

Well an interesting story. We have been looking for a few months and the way south Charlotte house sales are with how much houses get bid up and high due diligence is nuts. Word is over a hundred are moving there a day. Our daughter and her husband found a house to buy in another south Charlotte location. It is in need of a significant update lasting about 6 to 8 months but the finished house will be tremendous for them. The interesting part is they asked us if we would buy their house and we did a week ago. Not our first choice but there are benefits. Our heart is for the three grandchildren there to not have a disruption in their life and still go to sleep and wake up in their rooms. Consistency is important of them. So Carmen and I happily did this to help all. Once we sell the Greensboro house we will move to Charlotte and we will all be together until their house is ready. I have all my gear packed and in climate controlled storage. When they move out I will have a contractor come in and create listening and home theater areas like we have had in Greensboro. Until then we will be content to being part of their lives. We may stay a few years and then eventually move to the house that we will want permanently. Getting there is the first step. Our decision is not for everyone but it is for us and family.

Jim - thanks for the update. Yes, you are moving to a very popular part of the country. Sounds like a wonderful situation -

Boston is booming but ironically people are moving away due to extreme high cost of housing. We raised 3 girls here, last is starting med school in the fall - time to let a new young family take over. Every house that sells here is to a young family with kids. So, the neighborhood is getting young again. At the turn of the century when we arrived from California it was us with the kids and infants (and one yet to come).
