This time, I decided to purchase tubes from a vendor who has run them for some time and test them. Then provide measurements for each tube. I decided to try their highest offering, and I have to say I love how the sound system sounds. I'll buy from this company again (I did not want to mention a name because I am unsure of forum rules).

I doubt there are any rules concerning vendor recommendations considering Ivan is not a tube dealer. You can send Doug a PM though.

The Tube Depot (Ivan's a fan) and Tube Store has been recommended here recently. I personally had success with both.

Thanks, McMan. This thread has been helpful as I went through a similar experience. I recently moved my system to a Salamander cabinet, and apparently I did not leave enough headroom above the MC275, so a pair of my KT88's went into a slow-mo failure, causing my imaging to become erratic. But the overall sound was still great overall, and I had recently repositioned my speakers, so I thought I was completely incompetent at speaker placement and/or losing my mind. (Of course, both of these may still be true, but...) The KT88's finally died, making the issue very obvious and the fix very easy.

It is remarkable how a good system can be significantly compromised and still sound wonderful in many ways

Perfectly stated, the system was still highly enjoyable, but something just seemed a little off. Now with the fresh tubes in place, the system is on a whole new level.

I installed new Gold Lion tubes in the c2700 and it has seemed to work but I’m hesitant to put the issues to bed. I thought for a moment I heard the crackling while listening late last night but it could have been old ghosts in my ears. I will say the system has never sounded better. Fingers crossed.

I made the decision to go with the C2700 and sell my C2600. I ordered it on 2/25 and the dealer sent the request to McIntosh on 2/27 and they were thinking it would be 60 to 90 days. Well my dealer called me yesterday and said it had arrived on 3/3. He was not aware that the had any stock. So I will go pick it up this week. They are 70 miles away.
