Old thread... but it serves the purpose of asking this question.
Is there a trend of evolving from Bluray discs to internet downloads? Something similar with what is happening with high resolution music files? If yes, what's the HDtracks equivalent for video? Is the quality on par with Bluray? Thanks.

With music downloads you have the renting business model (typically low resolution) and the selling business model. When someone buys a high resolution download from HDtracks that person owns the file.
Instead of the file being written on a disc it's written on a server drive. A physical format difference - but the file is owned not rented (it will not expire if one doesn't keep paying the rent). I'm about to buy all my favorite movies on Bluray and the questions of: - Format longevity - is Bluray here to stay? - Alternative formats - is there a good (i.e. same or higher definition) download alternative? ... poped to mind.

They just released 50 years of James Bond on Blu-Ray. The box sets are keeping me buying. I got the Star Wars collection on BluRay last year and I want to pick up some of the Indiana Jones collection.

Now... I have an average Samsung BluRay player. What's the short list of top players that also play SACD (I know Oppo - doesn't fit my system because it is black; and Ayre DX5 - a good fit for me).

My main concern with physical media is longevity. I've had DVD rot set in on my DVDs and HD DVDs. Oddly enough, I've also had Shooter on BD now unplayable on the Oppo 95. The disc loads but the menu never pops up. I'd happily go for downloads with the following proviso:
A. The download purchase is also in the cloud so I can download again should I need to reformat or my machine has crashed. Kinda like the iTunes model B. the quality must not be lower than what I get from BD so a highly compressed 1080p with lossy audio is not gonna cut it and C. Not an issue with you yanks here  but ever since I moved to Australia, I've been quite appalled with the state of Internet broadband here. I live in a suburb where only Telstra has the infrastructure using a weird DSLAM network to provide voice lines (effectively IP voice) and even the competition has to buy data from Telstra to resell. So I can only get 500GB every month and that's the highest plan and I get charged 115 bucks a month for that. So unlimited broadband is a must.
