Actually - that is something to laugh at, Ivan with bitchslap gloves and baby powder, ready to go.

Ivan,

Get the 4.2 litre diesel Q7. It's a great car. I am driving the 3.0 diesel Q7 with 400 Lbs of torque.

It's torque that will make the driving experience worthwhile and comfortable.

You have sport cars anyway so why try and replicate the feeling in an SUV? You will never suceed anyway regardless of how low profile the tyres are or how many turbos you have!

You want a comfortable SUV with reasonable handling (no wallowy nausea inducing US suspension here), room for the family in comfort and enough torque to pull away with low revs. That means Diesel.

Honestly you would never know you were driving a diesel with this new generation and it eats half the fuel of the petrol versions. Almost nobody in Europe would contemplate a big petrol engined SUV. Apart from the cost it is not as nice to drive

The 4.2 litre Diesel Q7 has 550 LBS of torque I think. That is waaaay more than will ever be needed. I almost never get above 2000 rpm

Howie, have driven the X5M? I've driven the Q7...

Horsepower is meaningless? Not in our country. The first 3 gears get to see the redline every day in my X5M. Torque? The X5M has got that covered, with all 500 foot pounds of it.

Diesel? Diesel costs as much as the high octane stuff here and high octane is still rather affordable as compared to other parts of the world. The savings in fuel are usually meaningless to those who shop for an SUV in this category unless you do some serious/long distance driving on a daily basis, in which case neither would be the first choice anyway...

Why try do duplicate a sport car experience? Why not??? The X5M/X6M/Porsche Turbo Cayenne handle like a sports car, accelarate like a sports car, have great steering feel, great brakes and are actually quite comfortable and not harsh. I for one get car sick in most other SUVs....

Oh yeah, we can only get the 3.0 TDI Q7 here as far as I know. With 406 foot pounds of torque and only 225 HP it does a very yawny 8.5 sec 0-60... Compare that to 4.5 sec of the X5M... Different league all together...

Serge

No offense intended! I like the X5 a lot. Ironic that I was considering a new X5 this week. )

Yes I have driven them all and yes they are nice to drive.

I still think that torque available low down leads to a more enjoyable dub driving experience. I did enjoy driving my 4.4 X5 for many years but no X5 is a substitute for a sports car

I will drive them both, and then decide.

Serge

You're not seriously boasting about 0-60 times are you? ))

Ok enough. I just wanted to pointvout to Ivan that the Q7 is a good car IMHO and he should reaffirm his priorities in buying an suv in the first place)
