This is really strange ... and I simply dont quite understand. This speaker frequency response spec 33Hz to 50KHz. While the upper range is formidable, the low is hardly anything to be proud of ... unless I am reading the details wrong.

Wilson's Sophia III goes to a low of 21Hz (and so does the Sasha).

Can someone enlighten me how could 33Hz be impressive. I have lived with the Acapella Violons MkIV for a while and the bass is hardly "exciting" at 28Hz ...... The Meridians DSP8000, which I am having today spec at 20Hz ... and its so much "full bodied and have the depth".

Thanks. Asking cause I may have the chance to own a new pair at a nice price.

Ok, the itch had stopped, still need to learn ...

Cheers!

I'll take a stab at this, based on my experience, however feeble.

Speaker specs are kind of useless. There is no standard for measuring, no distortion levels given etc. So specs may help you get into the ball park, but little else. As an example, my LS360's are rated to 29hz +/- 2db. They easily get to 20hz in my room flat relative to a 1khz tone.

I once owned Klipschorns, rated to 35hz. They were actually good to about 30hz then fell off a cliff. However, Klipshorns have distortion, when playing at very loud levels, that is lower than many tube amplifiers. I can tell you that a 35hz note with no distortion is a beautiful thing. And the way they "load" the room is unlike any speaker I have had, before or since. Very, very "real".

Plus, there is very little musical information below 35hz, so for music, the benefits of flat to 20hz are marginal anyway.

JBl has had a reputation for being able to play at very high levels with very low distortion, especially in the bass. Plus, they do not have a reputation for being wildly optimistic with their spec's. (An example of wildly optimistic is Definitive Technology, it seems all of their speakers, regardless of size or cost go to 20hz). So I wouldn't be surprised if, with room gain. the JBL's would play as low and with less distortion than the Wilson's,

I couldn't have said this better. The best thing to do is listen to the system, and then decide. I'd be very interested to hear a pair of K2 S9900's.
