WOW!!! Picking A TV Is Not Easy
Plasma, LED, 3D LED, 4K LED, 65" to 75", Smart or Not Smart.....
 The choices are mind boggling what with all the specifications and options available on this type but not that type, CMR/refresh rates, internet capable vs. straight monitor, etc... If I wasn't so "anal"ytical it would be easier, right?  So I thought I'd throw it out to all my AA friends for a bit of input if you are willing to do so. Let's assume I know nothing about the TV's. My usage is primarily: 1. Standard Comcast feed. 2. BluRay via Oppo BDP-95 3. Netflix & Vudu movies via streaming through the Oppo. My thoughts: 1. I don't need a "Smart" TV as I can stream now via the Oppo. I can also view the Internet if I want using a feed from my server. Any other benefits to a "Smart" TV you think are important to consider? 2. 4K kind of appeals as more and more of that content is coming in via Netflix & Comcast so there's a "future proofing" aspect to that. I just don't think that the 4K content being brought to us at this point is truly 4K unless you have a separate server, such as the Sony box. So, 4K or no? 3. What are your preferences in TV's, plasma vs. LED? I know plasma is being phased out and that 65" is about the max available anymore. The LED TV's seem to have made great strides in black levels and refresh rates recently. So as I wend my way through this technical minefield I know your experiences, input and decisions would be very helpful and most welcome!

4k will not be streaming anytime soon. 1080(anything) doesn't even stream well right now.

Michael.......Some additional considerations might be heat and power consumption. LED sets are more energy efficient and produce considerably less heat, not to mention they weigh less so suspending them on wall mounts is much easier.

Dan...Thank you for that insight. I am definitely leaning towards an LED at this point. I was concerned about black levels (plasma does that soooo well) but some viewing at a store yesterday dispelled my concerns about LED black levels.

I would go with the Sony and forget about Samsuck(oops, I mean Samsung). As far as 4k, there is not a lot of 4k content out there, but what there is Sony has the most to offer. I think 4k is the future so why not buy a set that is future proof. Sony makes three 4k models: X850B X900B X950B The 850b and 900b are edge-lit with local dimming. The 950b is a full array backlight with local dimming. The x950b is Sony's most expensive model coming in @ $8k for the 65 inch model. I can't link to it but there is a review by David Katzmaier on CNET for the XBR65X900B. I suggest you give it a read. With everything that tv's can do nowadays making a decision is not an easy thing to do. Good luck with your search. Please let us know what you decide.
