Not quite sure yet. I will probably need 2. 1 for the HT and the other for 2 channel that would be retractable. Stewart looks attractive for both to me right now. Probably around 100" for the smaller room and 110" for the bigger room.

I have a Stewart Filmscreen 92" diagonal (for a 120" viewing distance, which is 1.5 times the 80" screen width) and am very pleased with it.

John, what is the size of the room with the screen?

I know that bigger is not always better. The smaller screen will look sharper and probably have punchier contrast and color saturation.

The projector is as far back as my room allows, and the screen is as far forward as it can go even though the pertinent dimension is 14 ft. I have found that most of the screen size calculators will indicate something close to the 1.5 times the width of your screen for a projector to screen dimension.

I am very happy with a screen size based on this.

There are 3 variables that have to be decided concerning a front projection system...

1...You have to select a place where the projector will be mounted. The reason I say do that first is that there usually is 1 place where the projector is mounted. If there is flexibility in the mounting position, then you dont have to get locked into one position.

2...You have to select the SIZE of the screen. 82"? 130"?

The throw ration is VERY important to consider, and so is the keystone and image shift. Even if you have a perfect projector, and it cant project on your screen, then you have less then you want.

Or you 1st choose the projector mounting point, then you have to select a projector that has a throw ratio that can project on the size screen you want.

Or if you 1st choose a screen size, then you have to choose a projector that can be mounted in the room and still project correctly onto the screen from the mounting point.

Long story short make sure all 3 of the variables (screen size, mounting position, projector) are considered and are in harmony with one another!

Choosing the right screen is almost as difficult as choosing which projector to get. I went with a 100" diagonal Stewart Firehawk G3. Here's some reading material on the Firehawk and white screens. The screen you choose will depend on your room. I went with the Firehawk G3 because my room is bright and I like to watch sports with some lights turned on, especially when Favre and the Vikes hoist up the Lombardi trophy in Feb.
