Why is it that this combo works so well???

I have NEVER heard a bad thing about that combo...

I remember auditioning the Belle Klipsch back around 1974, and being very impressed. In fact it depressed me because I had my first "high power" amp (150watts/channel) and longed for speakers that could handle the power better than my AR-2ax's. The Belle Klipsch's knocked our socks off in the demo room; driven by, I believe, SAE amps. (Mk2600 or the like). I was depressed because I couldn't afford speakers of the caliber of the Klipsch.

You were not alone, too bad Klipsch discontinued the Belles

Paul Klipsch said something along the lines of "if you don't like what is coming out, you wouldn't like what is going in" when referring to Klipschorns. I think the same would apply to Belles. When your speakers distort less than your source, every flaw in your source will stand out. I believe that is why Klipsch Heritage speakers are thought to be so finiky of amplifiers. Come to think of it, PWK also said what the world needed was a good 5 watt amplifier.

I drove KHorns with all manner of amplifiers. Never missed any of the amps, but wish I had never sold the KHorns.
