Cool JBL S4700 owners
Jut curious, is there anyone out there who owns these? I've had my pair for a bit over a year now. How do you like the sound and build quality of the speakers?

Yes they are! However, I would have liked a glossy finish on the cabinet like the 1400 Array. But, I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too! More important is the sound. I didn't cozy up to them at first, but with extensive break-in, they sound excellent, and my friends think so as well.

The S-4700 loudspeakers are very unique. DDD dual differential drive alone on the woofer is exceptional. I believe the low frequency driver has 7 patents on it and is exactly the same driver as the M2 Professional monitor.

So comparing these to the Array 1400's is not very fair. The 1400's are nice but the low frequency control and finesse on the S-4700 is more accurate IMO.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Yes, the woofer is really cool. I get great bass out of it.

The 1400s more than make up for these bass issues in many other ways--for example, the smoother and more accurate transition from bass to midrange and greater ease of placement due to horn orientation. Both are wonderful speakers, but in very different ways.

I agree. However, In which way are they different? I have heard both (not side by side mind you) and they are similar, I'd say.

Ok, I see. I'd have to hear the 1400 Arrays again. A member of the audio club which I run has a pair, and they sound very good indeed.

I agree, either one is a solid choice. It just depends on what you're after.
