Ebony has a darker grain structure with less of a red-ish hue than rosewood, but at a distance of 10 feet with less than lots of light, you might not notice the difference.

What did you think of the 66 compared to the 65 and 67?
I may have a line on a used pair of 66's.
Cool. What are you driving the Everests with?

Delivery delayed for a few days due to snow.
I've got to trailer them around the yard to my basement door and I don't want to get stuck......

Usually McIntosh MVP-891 into C-48 into MC-601's, but also Krell Evolution 2250e, Krell Phantom 3 preamp and McIntosh MC-275 LE 50th on hand. Despite their higher sensitivity and higher impedance I find the Everest's quite amplifier sensitive.

I would love to find a mint ARC REF-40 anniversary preamp to add to the collection though I may have to settle for a REF-5SE.

Currently using Nordost cables. I'm not a "believer" in expensive cables but I love how they are made and so I dress the system out with them.

MisterBritt, How would you describe the differences between the magnesium 65 and beryllium 67?

I would not venture to describe that. Unfortunately, the speakers were arranged for extreme near field playback and I'm of a preference for as much real estate between the speakers and the listening position as practicable. To my preferences, that distance is the measure of luxury. That's where the sound blossoms. But, alas, it was not to be. So I am going to push back from any commentary on what I actually heard. The "audition" was problematic for other reasons as well, none of which is germane to the speakers. Perhaps one day I'll get another shot at auditioning a pair. They looked great!

I prefer less of a near field experience myself.
If you are ever in Iowa, you can always hear my Everest's.

Thanks. Well, you have the floor. Let us know when you get yours up and running, please.

I got them this afternoon. The hassle is getting theses monsters inside the house, going up or down steps around corners etc. We took them directly into my basement via the walk out door so all of that was avoided. We just had to hope the delivery vehicle did not get stuck in 8 inches of snow!
Once inside, they actually unpack pretty easily. I had furniture sliders ready to help move them around the carpet.

I played with positioning all night long. The first order of business for me is to get as smooth of response as I can. I have an old Audio Control 1/3 octave analyzer I used to try to get the most linear response. I achieved plus or minus 2db from 25hz to 16khz, with the exception of the octave from 80hz-160hz which was about 6db hotter no matter where I put the speakers.

The floor to ceiling resonance is the main culprit here and is doubled up by the distance from the right speaker to side wall being the same as the ceiling reflection. The left speaker has less problem in this range than the right one does. This is unavoidable in my room due to the layout. So the bump makes them a bit heavy where some bass notes can stand out noticeably more than others. Most listeners would either not notice this or possibly like the extra punch. I may eventually decide to get some EQ, perhaps the McIntosh MEN-220, to fix this. I hate exaggerated bass.

On the good side, they are clean and dynamic. With the DD67000 JBL also fixed about a 4db peak the DD-66000 had around 16khz and they also measure smoother through the woofer/midrange crossover area.

Still tinkering with inches for the best imaging and need to give them time to break in before I have much more to say............

Cool, nice components. Works for me! What impedance do the Everests dip down to?

jpw.......Really happy to hear the new JBL's are home and making music. From your description it seems evident you need some acoustic treatment in your room, particularly bass traps to control the standing wave issues. It probably won't be difficult to get the room under control with the right bass traps and a few well place panels.

Please don't forget how much we like photos.

Excellent. We'll be looking forward to your further remarks. Meanwhile, good to know they are up and running.
