I've requested an audition. Should happen before the end of the month.

Not at all. If you are content to wait an additional time after the print edition is out, you can access it for free at the website. Old news by then.

I have heard the e1 on various occasions. Generally I have not been impressed but of course I am spoiled by the cr1s every day so it's not really fair on the e1. The sound is a bit softer than the ref speakers and I miss some resolution in the midrange. I think it would work well with more forward amps and will be much more forgiving of upstream electronics.

I should really be comparing to speakers in its price class which I cannot. I know member Eli here on Aa and Wbf has made comments comparing the e1 to similarly priced speakers.

I'm wondering if you have ever heard the Pioneer/TAD S-1EX speaker? Over on the other AA you can read my own findings of this fine speaker, but suffice to say that I'm considering moving my Harbeth M40's and replacing them with the S-1EX. Although the B&W 802D has caught my attention as well. Rick. |

One more question
Hi Kal,
That was an excellent read...our findings are very similar. I don't know if you read my post on the Asylum, but when I listened to the S-1EX they were in a very large room and driven by 2 Luxman M-800a's bridged. So my question for you revolves around my personal situation. My room is 14 x 25 with 8 foot ceilings, and I would be driving the S-1EX's with a Luxman M-05. Do you believe the Pioneers will perform well under these conditions? My present speakers are Harbeth M40's, and I really like them...but...I find them a bit light on the bottom end, and a bit boring. Your feedback will be most appreciated. Rick. |
