They have a 15" bass driver and a horn tweeter. They are very efficient and will work with as little as 1-2 wpc. I think they sound clear, crisp, full and have tons of bass. They sorta remind me of live music, something you'd hear at a concert. They are so clear and dynamic that I had to be careful playing them because I'd get lost in the music and not even realize how loud I was cranking them. Awesome for the money.

Thanks, Joe. I'm always thinking 'PA system' when I think of 'horn tweeter'. I'm reminded of my early days as a teen adding these 'el cheapo' horn tweeters to some old Advents. I don't know what I was thinking then, but that was some horrid sounding stuff - especially when coupled with the U-shaped equalizer settings! Yikes!

I really must make an effort to hear them. Thank you again.

You are welcome. They can be a little forward and maybe a little in your face but I could/should have stopped there and spent the rest on a sweet dac and tons of music.

OMG! I remember seeing equalizer settings like that. Holy cow! What the heck were my friends thinking?

The new MC275 MkV is silent, bench tests at 85 watts per channel, and will make a pair of Klipsch Cornwall's stand up and sing.
Thanks Dan, I really appreciate your input. In fact I am closer to the mc275 than anything else. I would like to stay with McIntosh for a while. I enjoy my c45 (perhaps the c2300 down the road), and would hate not to at least try such a classic amp with Gold Lion KT88s and the Cornwalls.

Greg,

I have no doubt the MC275 will sound awesome on the Cornwall III"s. I didn't push it because I thought you were concerned about tube heat and maintenance. I even love my modded 8 wpc ASL wave amps on my Cornwalls. Those speakers will work with ANYTHING and sound great. That's the beauty of them. Please keep us posted.

The tube maintenance and lower S/R compared to other McIntosh Amplifiers are what hold me back.

I was hoping more MC501, MC452, MC352, MC302 and MC252 Recommendations.

My interest is peaked for those Modwright recommendations, still I would like to stay brand pure.. but not "Wed" to the notion.

Greg.......Another good feature of the McIntosh MC275 MkV tube amplifier is its ability to be operated as a mono amplifier with double its output power. A pair of them in mono is a true joy. On top of that, if you manage to purchase one or two MC275 MkV's pre-owned, you can always recover your cost should you decide to sell. I'm thinking you won't be selling.

Joe! Cornwalls working with ANYTHING, thats the specific reason they fit into our future home/the plan anyway. Inexpensive to purchase, easy to operate, not worried about someone knocking them over etc, and great for entertaining, which we do. It was the 68 degree heat the Luxman produces that had me wary.

Wow, Dan, the mind reader. Yes, monos are the post move-in plan. Neighbours farther away! And, I would be chasing pre loved vs new. You were right on.

Greg,

One more data point. I don't know if I mentioned it here but definitely in other threads. When I had my Conrad Johnson ET-5 (which is a small step below my GAT pre), I had it hooked to my MC601's. They fact I still talk about it now is testament to how much I enjoyed it and sadly did not appreciate what I had. It was truely a wonderful combination. A Mcintosh tube pre and the 601's are a killer combo. Any Mcintosh will be superb on my precious Cornwalls.
