Like it or not, 4k resolution is the future. I believe 1080p televisions will fade into history.

As far as plasma goes, I had one and will never own another one I like watching tv, not worrying about burn-in or image retention. Besides, the best plasma is no longer being made(Pioneer Elite Kuro).

Disagree. Plasma burn in is highly overrated. My Panasonic is easily as good if not better than my previous Pioneer Kuro.

I Agree that the burn in is not an issue and is overrated. Not sure I think any current plasma is better than the Kuro. That being said many of the people behind the Kuro went to Panasonic after Pioneer stopped making TVs.

I am still of the opinion that there is no LCD / LED TV that is better than a Kuro / plasma. That is why I have not upgraded.

I Would eventually like more screen real estate which will force me away from plasma.

Disclaimer: I do own a Kuro.

As an owner of a PRO-111FD I have no need to upgrade. The picture I have is amazing and fully satisfactory. I saw a 55" 4K Sony next to a Panasonic VT60 and the VT was better to my eyes, especially with regard to color accuracy. The Sony looked great with 4K material, however, though I had to get close enough to see the difference.

I've had the set since 9/08, and no burn-in. I don't play video games and I was careful for the first 160 hours to mix things up in terms of viewing content.

No media, no players, no cable programming.

Unless all this changes, it will be dead like 3D and the curved screen TVs will also die.

The present day TVs are lasting much longer than they were originally expected and the manufacturers are scurrying to find ways to make people buy televisions.

This still needs 2 years to become truly viable, just like 480p and subsequently 720p/1080i+p.

Save your money for now. Especially since 1080p TVs have just plummeted in price. I mean wow, so effing cheap. 80" 1080p Sharp screens can be had for $2700. And they look fantastic. I mean come on - talk about party HQ with one of those on a wall.
I agree 100%
