Currently, the room has ridiculous echo - to be expected with all the hard surfaces, so I am going to reserve any judgement until I get the basics covered and have a reasonable amout of sound absorption in play.

My interconnects are Kimber Hero - I do plan to upgrade my power cords from stock to something in the Shunyata Venom line.

So as for the speaker cables, I guess looking for someything 'reasonable' considering I need about 15 feet since the amps will be in the cabinets on the RHS. And yes, complimentary to the rest of the system.

Cheers

Another idea is to get the Shunyata PCs in first, let them break in, and see how you like that. If you've been using stock cords, the Venoms will be a definite improvement; you may not even feel a need to switch out the speaker cables. I experienced something like that when I upgraded my power cords. In this scenario the only reason to go forward would be if you don't like the sound. And, a Shunyata NR would be a good move for a power conditioner if you have or get one.

I use the newer Oval 9s and 12s as a “bi-wire” arrangement. The 9’s on the bottom and 12’s on the top. An effective real world priced solution. Do I have better cables? Yes, but at significantly greater cost.

I second that approach, having been more than pleasantly surprised at how big an improvement the PC upgrade brings to the listening table.

Thanks, can't wait to get the components in the cabinets and wires hidden! Will definitely post pics when it's all buttoned up

Now I need to dig up my notes and get an order in for the Shunyata PC's - and make a decision on the speaker cables. To respond to a comment above, I am not dissatisfied with the 12TC I have, I just need longer lengths - hence the question could I change out for something better in the same price range +/- assuming I need a new set.

Cheers

That's me, probably. Looking at my last post, I meant there may be no need to change the speaker cable brand if you like the sound with the new PCs enough. It's easy to see how what I wrote could be misinterpreted. My apologies.

Have you considered keeping your speaker run short by moving your 501s next to each speaker and then run a longer balanced cable back to the pre? Take your current 12TC and make 2 pair of shorter runs for biwiring 800D.

Yes, but the idea is to really build everything in and hide cables entirely. The cabinets on the RHS of the fireplace will fit comfortably 501/2300/501. That makes the longer run to the left speaker - nothing crazy, but I estimate about 15 ft.

The current cables will be re-used in a second system in the upstairs office, so no waste

Hi Matt,

I like the Martini in your first picture. 😀

I too need a 15 foot pair of speaker wires and just ordered the Synergistic Research Foundation cables in the bi-wired configuration. They are available in black so cosmetically they might blend in with your dark wood floor. Price is similar to the 12TC.

Dave
