I have a watch given to my grandfather in 1944 by a German Field Marshall that works flawlessly after all these years.

they just recently introduced what I believe to be the most accurate quartz watch, + or - 5 sec per year. previous benchmark was 10 sec per year

Not really, they go right up the pay scale with just ETA movements, which fails to garner my respect.Build quality might be slightly ahead of Tissot, but that's about it. Back in the day perhaps...

They’re one of the oldest timepiece companies out there.

Funny that you post this, I just sent this article to my brother yesterday....

ETA makes some fine movements. Without them, mechanical might have to give way to smartphones and smart watches. I wouldn’t knock ETA mechanical movements; they’re used in many high-end brands.

For me it's like putting Bose internals in to a Naim. I wasn't sorry to leave ETA, and when I did I stopped looking. They do make good quartz movements though. A watch co has to have it's own movement for me. The 'holy Quintet' share the top guys mind, or the majority do.

agreed, I'd hate to hide Bose under the skin of something like Naim .......... only kidding !

and they do make good mechanical movements as well. Being part of the Swatch group(worlds largest producer of timepieces) they along with sister company Omega produce more hairspring / escapement assemblies than anyone else. While I know Rolex utilizes their own in house escapement (with a proprietary hairspring that supposedly is almost completely anti-magnetic) I'm not sure about the likes of Lange and Patek .....??
