I still hoping you are going to post some comments/thoughts about the Tape Project's appearance at CES

I wish they would release some 7 1/2 ips tape , but it goes against their business model. Still , their target audience has to be a small niche, and even less willing to pay 300-500 per tape.

Agreed. I remember when Doc B from Bottlehead was first talking about the tape project about 5 years ago. The tapes WERE going to be about $125, which was still pricey, but not out of reach for a serious collector. Unfortunately at the current price with pretty much NO selection it's tough to get off the dime (or the $500 bill for that matter) to spend that kind of money for The Staple Singers, etc.

Even twenty tapes is a 10,000 investment. You can buy a lot of GREAT records for that kind of money and as you know, every once in a while a tape machine can burp. One burp and goodbye $500 reel to reel tape!

And with today's current blank tape formulations, you'll be lucky if those tapes will last 10 years.

That being said, if I could get a copy of Dark Side of the Moon for $500 or something similarly interesting I'd still play just for a few titles.

As much as I love the RTR thing, the software is a serious limitation.

No love for acquisition machines? I remember how unfair our competition thought it was when we spun up a Master recorded the night before to demo a speaker. They had vinyl and they insisted we were cheating.

Pretty tough to do 15ips 2 track live recordings with a Stella and classical music. You needed the belt driven ABR 10-1/2 inch reel adapters. You can't imagine changing reels at the breaks between movements or worse, mid movement. Hilarious to watch. Not so much fun if you are the one doing it.
