Default Bryston BDP and Roon Question

Somewhat of an off shoot from another thread I have, but I noticed this morning that the Bryston BDP-1/2/3 and the Pi are all Roon ready.

I have my music on a NAS drive and a Mac-mini that runs Roon. If I picked up a BDP-1 for instance, I can just connect this via Ethernet and Roon will recognize and use this to stream? This is how my Sonos connect currently works.

Is this the same for the Pi or any other BDPs?

Thank you.

Well, this is a late reply to be sure.

I tried a BR-20 at home over the weekend. The BR-20 uses the same streaming tech as the BDP-3, and BDA 3.14.

It did work with Roon, but you have to make some simple menu choices (simple once you figure it out, documentation on this is very sparse).

1. Go to mybryston.com. It will detect Bryston devices on your home network. (so the Bryston unit needs to be powered on and connected - use the streaming connection, not the service ethernet connection).

- select your device

2. In the Bryston menu, select 'Services'. You will be presented with a list of protocols - MPD (Bryston's own Manic Moose'), SAMBA, DLNA, Roon, etc.

- enable Roon (this will disable MPD, they cannot run simultaneously)

3) Reboot the device from the main menu. It should come up as 'Roon Ready'. Power cycling will do the same thing.

4) Roon may not see it yet (as in my case). In Roon, go to Settings, then Audio. A list of devices will appear, which should include the Bryston. Enable it.

You should be good to go. It worked very well once it was all enabled and recognized. It can be grouped with anything else running RAAT. Sonos does not run RAAT so you can't group the Bryston with Sonos, but you can run as simultaneous independent zones.

The BR-20 is an impressive device. No doubt about the sound quality. The software is still evolving, and I will let this fish swim in the pond a bit longer.
