McIntosh XR290s - can't really say that they were truly "better" than some of the other high end speakers I have heard (XRT2Ks, ML CLX, SF GMs, B&W 800Ds, etc) because it is not a direct comparison, but at the time they definitely made the biggest impression on me compared to any other speaker I have heard before or since. If I had the right living space for them to breath I would still love to own a pair someday.

Klipschorns for me. When I heard them at the dealers showroom it was the first time that I heard bass that was just "there". Plus, the louder you played them, the more real they sounded. No distortion, just real. Yet, even at very low levels you could hear the smallest details. Nothing like a fully horn loaded system to reproduce transients, they reproduce the tiniest dynamic nuances IMO.

Most impressive? Wilson Alexandria X2v2. Enourmous soundstage, most realistic scale, effortless, eye flinching dynamics, holographic presentation, coherency and dynamic range and dynamic contrast only a few other speakers out there can match with Krell Evo 900 amps doing the driving.
Most impressive and musical at the same time? In terms of value, Wilson Sasha with Ayre or Lamm amps followed by Wilson Maxx 3 at a lesser value but even more impressive. |

Serge...I like your speakers and Lamm amps. You've got a musical combination

Focal Grande Utopia EM hands down. I don't have $200K to spend on speakers, so I will try the trickle down therory with either the Maestro's or Scala's.
