TonTräger Reference Speaker Stands: Anybody Own Them?
I was reading this month's issue (#293 page 74) of TAS and Paul Seydor gave an absolutely glowing review of these German made stands when used with a pair of Harbeth 40.2 loudspeakers. He described them by saying things such as "The difference they made in the sound is astonishing. This is the first and only time in my audiophile experience when I pair of rigid stands resulted only in improvements: I heard greater dynamic range, clarity, articulation, and definition with none, but I mean none, of the typical penalties that are the price of spiked stands: an excessively etched, edgy, analytical character regardless of how much sand, foam, shot, cat litter, or what-not you fill them with."
I'm currently using spiked Sound Anchor stands with my Harbeth C7ES3 speakers and and was wondering if anyone here might be using a pair of TonTräger stands with their stand-mounted speakers. |

Yes, I’m very happy with TonTrager stands under my 30.2 anni Harbeths. Wonderful synergy.

How difficult was it for you to find a dealer in the US? If you had to to purchase them directly from the manufacturer in Germany, were the shipping charges crazy high because they arrive fully assembled? |

The dealer I purchased my Harbeth speakers from carries the TonTrager line. No difficulties. I can PM you the info

They look nice, but they strike me as rather pricey; aren't they something like $1500?

Yes I agree, the price seems crazy-high for a pair of thin wooden stands but the rave review really caught my eye.

I think they are suffering a bit from the "high end audiophile" tax...
I think a local carpenter could make these for $500/pair out of maple. There's nothing particulary special about these stands from a functional, "systems-engineering" perspective, as they follow exactly the "light, stiff and rigid" mechanical grounding principles established by Roy Gandy in designing the plinths for the Rega turntables, Different implementation, but the result of the "functional transformation" is exactly the same, which is to specifically is to drain vibration resonances quickly through a light, rigid, stiff coupling structure.

I could actually live with the $1500 price tag if they're as good as the reviewer claims but of course they're shipped fully assembled and that would probably add greatly to the total cost of the pair due to dimensional weight.
