Thanks, I do like the new look; Walnut finish is lovely… one thing I cannot fathom is how the 805 Stand now costs nearly double…it was already a rip-off 8-}

I'm no longer an 800 series owner (I was) so you can tell me to buzz off, but does this announcement not seem a bit underwhelming? It looks like a new finish, some renaming, and some very small, invisible revisions internally. I know a lot of you waited a long time for this announcement and I am surprised at how little is changed.

That said, I wonder if they are still going to come out with an 800D4 later that is more impressive? Since the 800D3 was renamed to 801D4.

Well, even though you're slumming with those Alexxes, we'll let you stay.

It's funny though, I had the opposite reaction. New drivers, new cabinets--shouldn't that be enough for a marked improvement? I was scratching my head when folks were dissecting the looks of the D4 vs the D3, I would never upgrade for that. But now I'm looking forward to hearing them

From what I read, the drivers feature very minimal changes. A new fabric spider? Maybe some improved decoupling on the tweeter.

The cabinets are only changed for a few models, except for the top plate, which is now aluminum. Again, kind of minimal, still mostly MDF/plywood from what I see.

It's hard to tell from the marketing write-up how extensive these changes really are. But maybe they translate to a much better performer, who knows. Looking forward to hearing it.

No 800 D4. There are numerous refinements across the board, follow the factory tour on YouTube and you'll get an education. The D4 does to the D3 what the D2 did for the D. The D3 series was and still is a good series. The D4 just improves on areas where the D3 could use some refinement. Less is more in this case. As someone with an eye and ear for fine detail, I skipped the D3 because it wasn't quite right with me. The D4 corrects that.

Because looks are everything. To each their own though.
