Need the OS for MS300
I've been on this forum for a bit and will have to say this is one of the most impressive and informative posts that I have read. I know there are many great ones that I've read, but this is one has to be the most technical.
That being said. I jumped in and bought a MS-300 with a known bad power supply. Followed the great instructions and bought the pico power adaptor-laptop PS. I'm up and running!!! Just started to play with the unit to get the feel for the menu items, etc. Will take some time to feel my way around the unit. So, I am planning on upgrading to a 1TB SSD. Already have the drive and recommended adaptor based upon the previous posts. What I believe I now need is the Mcintosh "Golden Disk" or operating system to change the HD out to SSD. Does anyone have a copy of this? Also, not to get too far ahead of myself, but does the new drive need to be formatted? Much appreciated, Gary |

The SSD direction you are taking has not shown itself to be universally successful, free of issues, etc. Here is a quote from one owner who has the 750 which is pretty much the same. (He speaks of his contact with another person who tried the SSD route):
This person, (name withheld) told me he has the unit working with SSD. I duplicated his configuration down to the model of the hard disc he use. While the re-configuration to SSD, somehow the MS logic board stop working. Later to find out, the issue I had with the SSD is the same he been experiencing. So.. no new break thru with SSD and I lost a logic board for trying. This does not mean you will have a disaster, but if you wish I can point our your post to him and if he agrees, you could PM each other. |

Forgot to say that McIntosh Customer Service is probably best source for the disc you need. "MS Complete 2.0.7.1" if I recall, but they will know. You should also be aware that there are a number of threads beyond this one that deal with folk's experiences with these units, be it power supplies, drive upgrades or whatever. Just use the search function if you have not already done so.

Sounds like this is a road that I do not wish to go down in light of the information. I will enjoy the unit as is, in its current working state.
Thanks for the quick reply and all the support everyone has provided in the past. Gary |

I do have the Golden Disc image. Click on the link below to download. It is a zipped file, unzip it and you will have three files. Burn these 3 files onto a CD. When you use this CD to install the software onto a new system, the Hard drive will be formatted automatically during that process. Good luck and have fun. https://1drv.ms/u/s!ArTvou_GX6eYzlY4...zR0Oh?e=xlLNTy Henry

Henry,
Thanks for the link. Software downloaded. Been a lot of fun over the last few weeks getting the MS-300 running. Also, had to take the keyboard and remote apart to extract the old batteries. Got these cleaned up and working. Time to tinker with the unit now. Gary |

FLAC Import on SSD MS300
So I have upgraded the HDD to SSD. Actually, two different SSD. One is a straight clone of the OEM 300Gb Maxtor. This is exact including the partition, so I am not gaining any additional storage. The other SSD, a clone and then upgrade, with the Golden disk. Had to do this to partition the additional space.
So both the SSD drives operate correctly and the MS300 starts and functions. Here is my problem. Importing music. I am importing FLAC into the \\ms300\import folder. I am copying only the song files and not the folder. I am doing this one album at a time. The files copied are indexed by the MS300. MS300 creates and places them in the correct folder. When I go to play the songs via the web GUI some songs play and other songs hang up. The MS300 locks up for a few seconds and then goes to play the next song within the album. Different albums hang up on different songs (ie. its not always song 2 in the album). So what am I doing wrong? FLAC compression? Metadata? Is this a SMB issue? Have Win10 set to SMB V.1 Interesting thing is that the music cloned from the existing OEM drive does not have any issues. I don’t even want to mention the varies ways and time that I have tried importing music. Any ideas would be appreciated Gary |
