Just from doing some more listening with another AA'er who has Wilson and Ayre, I can say it is quite a heavenly match.
I hadn't paid too much attention to Ayre prior to that system, but it was a serious eye-opener. They make Wilson earn its keep.

I can vouch for the K-5xeMP. I bought one of the earliest ones after they announced the Maximum Performance upgrade. Very nice preamp, just wish it had more than two balanced inputs.
Close to deciding on a KX-R, or perhaps go with a tubed preamp. |

I am actually trading in the K-5xeMP with my dealer for the KX-R.
The K-5xeMP is a heck of a preamp however. I am sort of oscillating on whether to upgrade the preamp first, or the amplifiers. I am moving towards an R-based system. I'm also undecided if I should swap out my C-5xeMP for the DX-5. |

Just received (today) my K5xe^MP preamp and V5xe amp.
First impression is... very good. Substantially better than the integrated amp Ayre 7 series I've been using. At the same volume, the sound is much more precise and also more smooth. Really happy with the choice. I have however one (very basic question)... the K5xe^MP preamp doesn't have a power button... to do I switch it off? Pedro

Charlie Hansen from Ayre posted about the lack of the power button on Audio Asylum some time ago. I recall reading he said it sounds better continually powered up. The disc players have the power button though. I actually leave all my Ayre equipment powered up all the time. I am using the Ayre L-5 power filtering unit in my setup for everything but the power amp, which I plug straight into the wall.

Ok. Thanks jax4736 and Frank.
Just talked with my dealer that explained that it stays in standby to have "polarized and stabilized" circuits (whatever that means) resulting in better sound - immediately - whenever you press play. Pedro

I owned K5xe(MP) and V5xe for over 2 years. They are just great value for money.
