That must be it. Mine was built in March. I ordered my pre just before they announced the new HD version - supposedly I have the first HD production model.

I need to get on this this year.....I may plan on sending off in June....got a family vacation that time so it would be a good time to be without for a while.

He was a bit vague about the benefit but it sounds like a board he’ll be replacing. With the holidays I haven’t had a chance yet to get it done, but I’m curious since no one here has mentioned it. It also struck me as a bit odd that he’d offer to drive two hours to do it at my house for no charge.
Hadn’t heard of it until you mentioned it, Tony. Alex didn’t mention anything about it when we discussed my recent remote control adventure.

Who is your contact at Definitive?

Thanks!

I work with Hans Brackmann in Seattle. As a matter of fact, I’m heading there today to have the update done. I spoke to him yesterday and he said it’s something d’Agostino calls a “tone board,” but not related to the tone controls. He said he’s already done a couple of these upgrades and thought it made the sound a bit punchier and more dynamic. I asked about who it would impact, and he said he thought units produced prior to October would be affected, but that he wasn’t sure of the roll out schedule, it might not have been pushed to all dealers yet.

Thank you, Tony. I’ll check it out and see if it’s applicable to mine. I had my Momentum upgraded to HD in the first batch last summer.

Best,

Steve

Really nice review of the HD by JVS in the Feb issue of Stereophile.

Though we’re neighbors and I’ve been over to his place a few times to enjoy music I had no involvement in his review.

Well, I did tell him I thought he or Mikey Fremer (who reviewed the original Momentum preamp) ought to revisit the HD sometime. Little did I know. . .

You are correct JVS's review is spot on. Trading in my original Momentum pre-amp for the updated HD version was one of the better decisions I have made in this crazy hobby.

Thanks, Jim. I thought Jason nailed it, too.

In related news, my early-August HD upgrade is also a candidate for the free “toneboard” upgrade, so I’m in the process of setting up an appointment to take it to the dealer for installation next week.

My dealer is contacting D'Agostino to check on the upgrade. I will be having lunch with him next week.
