Hi
here also A Luxman l509x owner. I came from a NAD M12 and M22 combo. I was looking for a Mark Levinson 585 but after hearing a few tones it was not my cup of Tea. My hifi dealer had also the Hegel H590 for comparison, that sounds nicer to my ears. When he ask me for a demo at my house, I say okey. When he came to my house he brings also the Luxman l509x with him. After a comparison with both the of amp's on my Dynaudio Confidence 20 speaker's the Luxman was a absolute winner to my ears. The luxman is more clean and very detailed amp, and very well build. As DAC I use the Mola-Mola Tambaqui and streamer the Grimm MU1, great combo. question: aim looking for a good power cable, any suggestions? Luxman's manual say's use the standard power cable. thanks |

Martin... also try the Furutech power cables that Ben makes himself. It equals a 4K power cable for much less. I've heard them quite a few times now, and they're great. I also heard them on your amp.

Yesterday we tested with serveral powercables.
We had non shielded and shielded cables. We found-out that non shielded cables gives the best result with the luxman l509x. A better soundstage and a better controlled bass.

Using a synergistic research foundation power cord on mind. It’s very good compare to my other kimber select PK10.

Some manufacturers specifically advise against power cords other than the included cord. Sometimes shielding can help but in most cases it is unlikely. I'll just copy/paste this. Power Cord Shielding Shielding a power cable is unadvisable. It will add significant capacitance to the cable with minimal positive benefit. If you really need this, then the shield needs to be spaced well away from the conductors (large diameter) to minimize capacitance and avoid constraining the magnetic field lines that should couple between the conductors. Empirical testing has shown that standard shielded 14 gauge stranded power cord sounds less dynamic than unshielded 14 gauge stranded cord when used with audio components that benefit from improved cords. The impedance of the AC electrical system is extremely low and susceptibility to magnetic and RF fields is extremely low for power cables so the benefit is questionable at best. Unfortunately, some of the commercially available shielded cords appear to make some systems sound better, but are actually "tone controls" for taming badly matched or designed components. There is some benefit to shielding if you are trying to protect unshielded nearby unshielded interconnects from the fields generated by the cord itself. I'm not sure if this is the correct thread to post this but here goes.
I've been researching a Luxman 509 or 590 to upgrade one of my systems. I see they are relatively similar in price with the primary difference in the sonic signature. Not to overly simplify it, is it primarily the difference between 30wpc Class A of the 590 vs. 120wpc of Class AB of the 509? I'm considering one for driving a pair of TAD ME1s in a 11x12 room with CDs as the music source. It sounds like the 509 is the recommendation unless I want to introduce a tube sound. It sounds like I can't go wrong with either unit for this environment. Any opinions? |

Bump. I also own a pair of ME-1 and in the curiosity of these two highly acclaimed INTs. @mike o what are you currently using for power?
