Help me expand my musical choices
I've been stuck in the 80's and 90's pop/rock genre as this is the music I grew up with. My kids have pulled me into today's pop music, but I'm hoping to break out from just listening to pop/rock. Would love your top 3 albums from other genres that will allow me to expand my musical offerings. Appreciate your thoughts!
Steve

Check out these:
Jason Isbell - Southeastern......awesome southern bluesy folk rock sound from one of the better songwriters out right now Holly Cole - Temptation or Don't Smoke In Bed........smoky audiophile female jazz vocalist. One of my favorite artists period. Sarah Brightman - Eden......fusion of pop, jazz, and opera all in one. Amazing voice if you like this kind of thing. Does a neat cover of Dust In The Wind.

Here are three very different suggestions.
The quality of some film scores might surprise you. La Mula by Oscar Navaro is very moving. Here is an excerpt. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTpG0ZDsQA8[/ame] Please don't think of Mary Chapin Carpenter as a country singer. One of the smarter storytellers working today. A sample from her Songs From The Movies release accompained by a full orchestra. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0IXIyDLcTI[/ame] Another suggestion would be James Bay's "Chaos and the Calm" A sample of the song "Running" [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvhPDOAp27k[/ame] Last edited by Still-One; 06-29-2016 at 02:12 PM. |

City of the Sun To the sun and all the cities in between 192k
Brian Bromberg Choices I would also add to Dan's list on of my favs! Lee Ritenour Rhythm Sessions CD or HD tracks both A++ But HD tracks maybe a bit more transparent and 3 d like. Govi is a great newer artist too and some of the old er records are great, but I love the newer one called: Govi The High Road Backs to the 70/80s the new Frampton Peter Frampton Acoustic Classics is good too! Paul Hardcastle VII or the Paul Hardcastle Chill Lounge is good, you can preview this stuff at Amazon, Also Peter White is a great Smooth Jazz guy. PS a lot of these jazz guys played on many rock records in the day. Nora Jones (lots of good stuff), Dianna Diana Krall The Look of Love, The Very Best Of Chris Botti, The Very Best Of Acoustic Alchemy. OK this is enough to at least get a taste of.. |
