One of the finest phono stages I've ever heard....unreserved recommendation.

thanks, yeah i love tubes too.
i know it's 3 x the price, but how does the ref2se compare? |

Ref 2se more resolving and expressive, but at the expense of some brightness with some material but this could be system dependent. Andros has a more typical tube sound without tipping over to the overly romanticized, syrupy sound of classic tube gear.

The Andros is anything but "typical" sounding...

I don't have the resources to do a side by side, but I would buy the Andros over a Ref2SE any day of the week. It's more musical and much more involving to listen to.

that's what i was thinking, also the 2se high gain is too high and the low gain too low. no ability to set in the middle. seems to me like it's only suited to mm and very low-output mc carts. the difference in price can be used to source a better cart and tonearm cables.

Th ref 2se mates well with low gain line stages like ARC's Reference models. I've had both units side by side and as I mentioned earlier, the ref 2 gives you more of everything, but somehow the andros seemed to please more emotionally and musically. And when auditioning, do use the balanced input which is totally immune from hum even without grounding the phono cables.
