If you can, bring some music you know well. It really helps to hear what is going on, to have music you know through and through. If all you have are records at the dealer you may never have heard before.. Not much to work with.

exactly and to that by listening to Lp's at the dealer of music he's familiar with in the 'digital domain' he can better get a feel as if analog will be right for him !

Help with a beginner Vinyl system
Hello All
I know this thread is old but I thought I would update it for some finality. This week I finally got the vinyl system after 3 plus years after posting the first time. I decided on a new Thorens 403dd with Ortofon 2m cartridge and as luck would have it, my dealer had a Fosgate Signature that he let me take home to audition. It was suggested by The Lost Bears in this thread. I like it a lot and will keep it. I have a lot of used lps I inherited. After cleaning them, I’ll run through them and decide what stays and what goes. So far I’m enjoying the analog sound on some records and some not so much. The soundstage is nice with a creamier sound than cd. I’ll just need to find better recordings on vinyl to really get into the sound. Thanks to everyone here who offered their input. Happy listening, Pete Last edited by pete6737; 05-06-2022 at 05:45 PM. |

Cool. Enjoyed hearing of your journey. I have had a good analog end since… well 40 years. I now have a equally priced analog end and digital end ~ 45k each. My analog end outperformed my digital end a little bit… but the mastering tends to determine which is better.
The key to a great analog end is a great phono stage and a great cleaning machine. Of course a great turntable and cartridge eliminate any surface noice (from a clean vinyl lp).

Congrats on the vinyl rig. Jeez, I hadn't thought about that Fosgate phono stage in forever. Nice find to dig up that nugget! Should provide you with great vinyl enjoyment.
