Anyone tried a fullrange (single driver)
Hi guys. just wondering if anyone tried a single driver- fullrange speakers? I haven't heard any, so maybe someone will give me insights
pros? cons? history: before I have the Dyn's a have the Meadowlark kestrel's which are time aligned.. and while I love how they sound I wish there were more higher freq. response. So, I decided I'd keep the kestrel for a 2nd system--- which never happened. and now I play everything on the Dyns but sometimes I still wish I can have that 'too die for' midrange. Thanks and I'll appreciate any response Jason

historically, the Bose 901
Pros-no crossover needed Cons-mid range and high frequency smearing due to riding the low frequency wave, high frequency frequency beaming due to the relatively large driver cone, inability of high or lows to be produced well due to inappropriate driver diameters and excursions Last edited by GaryProtein; 07-10-2012 at 06:34 PM. |

They can be ok for some music, but have no real dynamics or top end.

A single 15" driver is going to produce 20-20,000 Hz?????
Sure it will do 20 Hz to a few hundred Hz well, but how is that going to do midrange and treble? Usually a full range driver is small--3-4 inches max. |

The semantics are variable I agree -but in the context of the post-Single Driver/etc
The fine points could be argued. pardon if I misunderstood but ONE Driver in cabinet -- Tannoy is such-no? There are variants on the Dual Concentric topology within the range. But to me Single Driver Full range ONE speaker per Box-the Tannoy fits that bill. YVMV Des |

I was actually just curious so an innocent question on the Tannoy and I was only thinking about the dual concentric
I think the key issue , to me , is whether there is a crossover involved ( which I think there would have to be with two drivers) I looked it up though: A dual-concentric loudspeaker has the two drivers (bass and treble) mounted co-axially. The benefits being a frequency response and phase response that is not affected by nodal-cancellation found in normal multi-way speakers. This limitation in conventional multi-way speakers cannot be avoided. Last edited by Freestone; 07-11-2012 at 12:06 AM. |

These lowther single driver speakers got a huge rave, and for being full range. Very unusual shape. Anyone ever heard them ?
