Default IP Man

Ok, a friend introduced me to this flic (never heard of it before), and my 1st thought was "this is another cheesy martial arts flic". Now, I'm not big into martial arts films, although I've seen a few in my lifetime. He loaned me the DVD, and I watched it over the weekend. My hat goes off to the Chinese film industry on this one (although I got a chuckle out of the 'chinese dolby 3.1' in the credits).

Master Ip was the teacher to Bruce Lee. And there's a history lesson to be taught in this film. The plot was well laid out, the film was believeable, and the plot was (as 'they' call it) semi-biographical.

If you're into martial arts films, I suggest you see this one. And yes, I've seen 'Enter the Dragon'. This one's for real, and it received several awards (12 wins, 10 nominations). They chose the theme music to the film well. There is no English spoken in the film, so you need to select the 'subtitles' function on the DVD.

Ip Man was only the start!

Wait till you see Ip man 2 .....

The plot is good, the acting's great and the fight scenes very well choreographed! And yes, this one's for REAL!

You learn about Bruce Lee's Master's humility and respect for life!

And if you look closer, he does kicks ... but Bruce Lee modified that. At the end of the show, there's a short scene where a young Bruce Lee seeking him to be his Master!

His eldest son .. the small boy in the movie is now 82 years old and fighting fit! He's the one who coached Donnie Yen (playing Ip man's part) the moves!

Looking forward to the sequel.

This film is rated R, and it's probably because of the blood & violence. This story took place in the 1930s, when Japan invaded China. And the Japanese were brutal with the Chinese.

This trailer should give you folks a 'flavor' of the film.

Sorry Dan, Ip Man just took a slow walk (10 days = S$7.05 postage) as against S$55 if lesser by 5 days. Hope you dont mind.

The Oppo I had is "multi-code = any code", so your's probably too. If not, check them out to see how to "program it as multi-code"

Cheers!

I would rate it one of the classic martial arts films out there, just a few of my favs.....

The Legend of the Drunken Master starring Jackie Chan
Enter the Dragon starring Bruce Lee
Fist of Legend starring Jet Li
Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon" starring Chow Yun Fat, the lovely Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang

.....many others

Here's a trailer for Ip Man 2....
