I was at work yesterday, the new guy glanced over my shoulder and caught me looking at the virtual systems on Agon. His first comment was, what are you doing peeking into peoples living rooms? He then looked closer and saw the systems, one after the next, showing more interest at the crazy speakers for example. I said here, you can have these Wilson's for 68,000.00.
When he recovered, his comment to me was, you are into stereos eh? I thought for a second. I said no, it's about the love of the tunes really. I never say what I've spent, even at a fraction of what the average system is here on AA, no one I know outside of the group here understands, people are funny.

Edit: except my dad, he gets it, but he's a musician so...

My system is a cobbled together, rebuilt, tweaked to the max system that produces some outstanding music. But every one that listens to it says don't tell me how much it cost, because I can't afford it. They sure like it, but most would never just sit and listen to music like we do. I don't ever get into the justification for it just that audio is a passion of mine that most don't understand.

I like the solitary enjoyment that my sound system provides me. It affords me the opportunity to deeply appreciate a musician, vocalist, band, and/or orchestra without distractions, while at the same time I can appreciate the unique quality of the audio components reproducing the music. There are also plenty of times when music is played in the background during morning coffee, or dinner. I find it interesting when a fellow audiophile visits, and understands the gear, and the quality of the musical reproduction. Those times are enjoyable, but my best listening sessions are done alone.

A huge +1. I totally agree Dan. I find my ability to completely immerse myself in the music only happens when I am on my own.
