I am just not a tone control user. In thirteen years of owning the C40 preamp, with the five band built in EQ, I never used the controls. They were always set to flat. The same was true with my C42 preamp with a five band built in EQ, always set to flat. I never used the bass or treble controls on my McIntosh 4300V receiver, my old C2200, nor have I used the bass or treble controls on my C2300 that is presently in the studio system. That is why I have no problem enjoying the C1000P in my main system. The absence of tone controls is not an issue for me. I would not use them if they were there.

Using the processor loop to install an equalizer is not something I would do. I fully understand the mind set of those that choose to use EQ, and have no disagreements with them. Everyone has their own requirements. I prefer to listen to exactly what is on the CD, LP, server, or digital streaming. To each his own.

Words of wisdom Dan.

Based on many posts on this subject on this and other forums, I believe that McIntosh are roughly split 50/50 when it comes to the use of tone controls. But this leads to a question for product managers (i.e. which group to address?) I believe that the smart strategy would be to continue to offer bypassable tone controls - in the "low-end" products, and a fully by-passable tape/effect loop on the higher-end products. This is not my preference, BTW, as I'd love bass and treble controls even in the C500/1000 series, but I understand that at that level, signal purity is a major objective.

Nope, I do not use the loop on the C-1000. Actually all I have plugged into mine is the MCD-500.

Ron, you forgot to mention that I could have hooked up an old Audio Pulse Digital Time Delay from the late 70's. What did I do with that?

That's because you have a sub. which is your bass tone control. I never increase the treble on my system but with certain LP's the bass sometimes gets turned up to 2 o'clock as I do not have a sub. Hmmm.... maybe a F112 is in order.
