C1000 Home theater passthrough

Hi guys,

I received last week my AV amp : a Pioneer SC LX81.
I set-up the passthrough on the C1000P using the manual to have the L / R signals going through the C1000 and get amplified by the 501's.
This way, the Pioneer drives only the center and surround channels.
My question is :
How come the volume control on the C1000P is still active on this passthrough input ?
I thought that a passthrough input would be transparent and disconnect the volume control on the C1000P ?
Was I wrong ?
Is there something I did wrong or is this normal ?

Are you sending a trigger signal to the C1000's "Passthrough" 3.5mm minijack port? It needs to receive a 5 to 12 volt signal to tell the C1000 to go to "Passthrough" mode. Does your Pioneer receiver have a Power Control Out jack (as would be used to tell an external amplifier to turn on)? If so, that jack is what you should connect to the C1000's "Passthrough" jack.

Jérôme.......As I understand it, for the McIntosh Pass-Through function to work, where the surround processor takes command of the C1000 volume control, the surround processor has to be a McIntosh. Since you are using the Pioneer surround processor/amplifier, which does not have the McIntosh data cable interface, the Pioneer will not control the volume of the C1000.

Dan, all the Pasthrough data cable does is to tell the C1000 to switch to the input that was designated in the menu as the Passthrough input and to go into Passthrough mode in which the point is that the C1000's volume is not subject to change and the C1000 literally just passes the unattenuated signal through to the power amps connected to it. The left and right channel preamp level outputs on the Pioneer are connected to the appropriate set of inputs on the C1000 (the ones designated in the menu as Passthrough). In this way, the Pioneer controls the volume of all channels.

If the Pioneer receiver doesn't have a 5 to 12 volt power trigger output, it seems like you could also make this work by using one of those Niles sensor trigger thingys that Ivan has written about.

Yes, a Niles LS-1 will make it go into Passthrough mode.

Thanks, Ivan. LS-1 is just a bit more descriptive than "one of those Niles sensor trigger thingys."

Yes my Pioneer has a power trigger output.
I read it should be connected but I thought it was optional.
