Given the title of this thread i think you have your answer buy the 501's and know that you will have enough clean power to drive any speakers you may demo. let the 501's be the consistent part of the equation.

Thanks again guys!

Congrats to KMC45... Very Nice Purchase... I'm sure you were not trying to rub it in!
I'll have my 501's one of these days.

If anyone hears of a "just can't pass up" deal, send me an email or PM. Thanks again!!!

Any and all comments welcome as I'm trying to absorb as much good info as possible. By the way, all my Rotel & B&W equipment is up for sale or trade for some new Mcintosh stuff!
I actually have one of those amps the Rotel RMB-1095. Different sound from my Mcintosh, harsher and not nearly as smooth sounding. It is a decent amp however with a lot of detail and pleasant sound. I of course prefer my MC501s to it. However, if I had to chose between keeping that amp and buying new speakers. I would opt for the better speakers and then go for the MC501s. The MC501s are more refined have much more dynamics and better bass response. Still unless you play at high levels go for better speakers first. Mac amps will be the icing.

You're probably better off with the 703s running off the 501s, and upgrading to the Sophia 2's later. The 703s will probably sound relatively better than running the Sophias off a receiver. I ran my speakers off a Yammie receiver for a very short time, and then used the receiver as a pre/pro for a year until getting the MX-136 last month. The MX-136 made a surprisingly large improvement. If you got a smoking hot deal on a pair of Sophia 2's, you are probably better doing that first. Money's always a fun variable in these calculations!

I agree! Thats why I go straight for the Acapella High Violons MkIV's. Amps can come later ..... Even an "entry level" integrated McIntosh MA6600 is driving them musically!

Given the time, I shall be able to plan/save for the amp that will drive these to higher level of musicality (to my ears)!
