Dan,

The speakers are sounding better all of the time...

You know, things getting jelled and all.

I will say this. THEY ARE VERY REVEALING SPEAKERS!!!

Fabulous on some material, and making you not want to listen to some of the more poorly recorded stuff.

I think a JL sub with this set up would really be awesome. I am trying to keep things simple for now.

I would love to move up the PMC ladder at some point...

Stephen.......This is good news. Everytime I look at that photo of your MC501's hitting 1000 watts into the TB1i's I am knocked over. Truly amazing. I'm glad to know they are making you happy.

The DETAIL is simply amazing...

Better than my HUGE McIntosh speakers...

Imaging is probaly better too.

They just don't have the bass, nor should they be expected to.

I think that I find find my next music room before jumping into a sub.

My next room will undoubtably not be as "soft" as my current room.

I am thinking hardwood floor, a singlr chair, equipment on the side wall...

Time for some long XLR's...

Two dot,

I'm happy for you. Going from big speakers to high quality bookshelf speakers can be very rewarding.
Usually they all have a "better imaging". Or maybe they can simply be more easily positionned. They also often make less resonances in our rooms.
Like Dan, looking at the power your speakers are swallowing from the 501's is incredible.
Enjoy !
Changing speakers is often a way of rediscovering all our music collection ! So many CD's and Lp's to listen to again... !! Hard work !!
Best wishes,
Jérôme

One thousand watts is a substantial amount of power. It has to go either of two places.. radiated as acoustic power, or dissipated as heat. That being said.. a word of caution (and to all Mc users.) It doesn't take 500 watt monoblocks to damage your hearing. When I was a young man, a confluence of four things damaged my ear: MC2200/2205 amplifiers, NS-1000 speakers with beryllium (key work is metal) mid and high domes, hardwood floors, and 12 oz bottles of beer.

It is strongly recommended that ALL McIntosh performance users have a SPL meter in the listening room and be aware of sound levels and durations. The first warning sign is a slight `ringing.´ You must take heed, else permanent damage could result and you'll be very sorry.

Absolutly right, Gregory....
With high sound preasure comes high level of transient and that is dangerous to your ears. Be caution.
