Joe, for what I listened/compare in the past years, I can simply affirm that for my taste (non only mine) a mono pair of 911's sound better than a 909 stereo, even if the sound of them is a little different.

A mono pair of 909's is awesome.

The Burmester power amps, when used in mono configuration, improved a lot their sound qualities.

For my taste the mono 911's are impressive and in the future I'm well intentioned to drive my B80's with 4 units 911's all settled in mono's.

Stay tuned

Rocco,

I am right here with you. Please keep me updated. That will be an impressive setup for sure.

Do you prefer the amps set for mono from the factory, or are the Y-cables just as good? I know the factory will make the amps mono from the start so you don't need the Y-cables.

Now, I've two 911's settled mono's with the Burmester Mono-Adapters (Y cable). I think, that settled mono from factory there is a very little improvement in sound. But i never tried side by side.

I think the mono adapters will offer better flexibility with a slight reduction in sound quality. I guess it depends on the setup also.

A little update to this old thread. I first bought the B25. But this summer I upgraded to 961 mk3. The soundstage is much bigger now, and also the sweetspot is much bigger.
The B25 sound is like a laserbeam, very dynamic in sweetspot, but looses for every centimeter away from sweetspot.
Totally different radiationpattern of these speakers.
B25 has more bass-output, than 961.
961 mk3 is also beatiful with the chrome-plates, like a gem. It is the best looking Burmester speaker because of this, I think.

Default What are your impressions of 961 mk3?

Hi there! I´m new at this forum and interested in Burmester and the 961 mk3 in particular. So what are your impressions of this speaker? is it worth the price and does it stand against others in the same price range?

Very refined loudspeaker the 961's Mk3 and outstanding performance. Seen that mainly depending on our musical taste is very difficult to establish at prior if at the price you can find a better loudspeaker. If you like the Burmester sound approach, the 961's is an excellent purchase. Personally I like the 961's very much.

Actually, my pair of 961 mk3 are now for sale.
The sound of 961 is extremely "airy". But I like to change gear as often as underwear, so it is time for me to try something else! Thinking of large JBL studio monitors with horns, for a totally different experience.

Hey there, I know this is an ancient thread but would you mind giving your impressions on the B25 now that you've had experience with it?
