Default How to fix Klipsch rattle?

I have a pair of Klipsch KLF20's which I had replaced years ago due to a rattle that was coming from the cabinet. The distributor advised that there was a fault with the glue which is why they replaced them. Problem is that the rattle is back! Obviously way out of warranty is this something worth fixing or do I just get rid of them (I'm guessing the problem will simply return if fixed).

Any suggestions? Thanks...

A bad woofer can rattle as well as the cabinet. You need to try to find the source. I assume it happens on bass notes. Can you shake the speaker and get the rattle? Also wires inside the cabinet might have come loose and be touching the cabinet. Anyway, see if the rattle is coming from one of the woofers. If not, take out a woofer and look around at the insulation and wires while rapping on the speaker or shaking it a bit. You might have to drive it with some bass notes with one woofer out to find the source. Once you know where the rattle is coming from the fix will be simple. If it is the cabinet, Gorilla glue and wood triangle wedges to tighten it up with some screws from the inside. But yes, I would fix them.

I found a thread on AudioCircle that has pictures of the speaker cabinet with drivers removed. It does look to be a common problem of not enough bracing and glue. The guy shows how he braced and glued the cabinet. I am not sure it is worth this effort, that is your decision.

Wood dowels would work well too.

There was a bad batch of glue for KLF-20, I still own a pair of dealer demos from the old Audio King they sold to me for $300 due to glue issue. From what I recall had to re-glue the motor boards with liquid nails, that took care of it IIRC

Great rock speakers, just need to find another integrated amp like Marantz Reference to get them back in the mix...

I sold Klipsch speakers back when they were having bad glue issues. The ones that I repaired had loose cabinet backs. Some came completely detached from the cabinet. I used Titebond glue products with great results. My most recent repair was a pair of Klipsch CF-4 series 1 speakers. These really sound great. I think I'll keep them.
