Yeah, that brings back memories too! Heck, when I launched that one with my son, during a visit to my folks' house, we ended up with the rocket landing in the woods way up in the trees, so were SOL.

Oh, I used to launch the rockets with my sons all the time when they were much younger! I bet there are still a few of them still up on the high school roof!

Same here. I probably shouldn't go public with what we put in the payload section...

Nothing like chasing them through the neighborhood; finding ways to remove them from tall trees, the roofs of houses, etc...

I was into estes as a kid in the 70's living in Albuquerque.

My house was at the then 'edge' of the NE housing division onto the open mesas.

Me and my friends would do our launches from there.

Most memorable experience....I had this shuttle all built and ready to go(not my pic-but the same one I built):


It was horrible!!!! A burn-out on the pad....I forgot to glue in the engine block and on ignition the block moved up inside the fuselage...the whole main stage burned in flames....all that I could save was the shuttle itself

When I was in Jr. High one of the really cool teachers, a science teacher by the name of Mr. Hodges, organized a "rocket club". It was really fun and thinking back on it a great memory from my childhood.

Remember how the wings would split, and the canopy piece would break, but you would still slide the remains into the top slot?

And watch that hand winding the propeller! WHACK! Ouch!
