Default PurePower

I will be picking up a PurePower unit to compare to PS Audio PPP. We'll see what happens. Here is an interesting comparison chart. Audiophile APS - Dealer Inquiry

Ivan, I don't know about overvoltage but there is very little the PPP can do against brownout or sag (as in audio transients induced sag) I guess that's why they claim "limited". The PurePower has a battery backup and is capable of pretty impressive 1400 Watts Continuous, 2000 Watts Short Duration and 4200 Watts Peak with zero transfer time from APC to battery. I guess that equates to more stability.

Notice they didn't say RGPC is limited in "sag". Because the inductor magnetic collapsing field induced back current that helps to overcome those audio transient induced sags.

I think you're covered though since you run PPP and RGPC together.

Serge.......As I understand the functionality of the PPP, from information available on PS Audio's website, it is able to deliver up to 50 amps (6000 watts) short duration peak current from its internal capacitor banks. There won't be any audio transient induced sags with that amount of reserve peak current capabilities. In addition, the PPP is designed to deliver a continuous 1500 watts of pure sine wave regulated 120 volt AC power despite under or over voltage at the incoming line. No doubt, there is a limit to the under and over voltages it can successfully use to create 120 volts AC, but just the same, typical household voltages of 110 volts to 130 volts doesn't seem to present any problems for the PPP.

A friend wanted to test the PPP with his system, so I took my first PPP to his home in Jacksonville, and powered his B&K system with it. His incoming voltage was 113 volts, and the PPP raised it to 120 volts output without incident, and at the same time reduced his AC line THD from 5.6% to 0.5%. He bought a used PPP on Audiogon the next day.

The very same PPP at my home has to deal with overvoltage. My home has no other home connected on my pole mounted transformer, and I usually have a minimum load on the transformer. Typically, my incoming voltage is 126 to 127 volts AC, both day and night. The PPP reduces the incoming voltage, and outputs a well regulated, perfect sine wave AC at 120 volts. For me, reducing overvoltage is a greater concern than dealing with undervoltage.

I am not familiar with the PurePower 2000 beyond what I have read on their website. It seems to be a substantial AC power regenerator. From the information I read it appears to have one leg up on the PPP, and that is battery backup (15 minutes at half power). Battery backup is also available for the PPP in the form of the PowerPak 1500 for $999.00. Couple the PS Audio PowerPak 1500 with the Power Plant Premier at it's new lower price, and you have a competitive product to the PurePower 2000 at a lower price.

It will be interesting to follow your comparisons of the Power Plant Premier and the PurePower 2000. Looking forward to the review.

Now with the battery back up, this is very interesting indeed. Looking forward to your shoot out.

Dan, 50 amps and 6000w is a bit optimistic, don't you think? The PPP is nothing more than a class A/B amplifier on the output side that is controlled believe it or not by a DSP chip which in turn feeds a DAC much like you would find in a CD player which in turn feeds the amp. Now, if you believe that a PPP can put out 50 amps with the few not so large caps that are in there.... It takes much heavier, more robust amps to put out that kind of juice. Having said that, I didn't find any problems running all my gear through it and did not notice any significant dynamic suffocation from my amps even when playing music pretty loud. I don't use it right now for my Lamm M1.2 because I find it somehow leans out the sonic signature of the amps themselves but that is another story so I am using the RGPC with my amps right now. All my other gear is still plugged into the PPP and I find tremendous benefit with it.

I am in need or actually will be of another regenerator anyways so this is a good time to try something else, I am sure the PurePower will find use in one system or another depending on what I find.
