Damn you silicon valley-ites.

You are on the fiber backbone of the entire US

Actually there are still a few companies there that have homes wired to 100mbit ethernet - not cheap, but certainly worth it if you are a speedfreak like me.

My speed used to be amazing when I had Optimum Boost, but since my wife decided I didn't need that, it sucks

between 5 and 7 KBPS with this test.

Like someone else said DSL Reports has a great site with some tools and tests

Yesterday I bought a new cable modem: Linksys CM100
Here are my new results: Last Result:
Download Speed: 20988 kbps (2623.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 4079 kbps (509.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

My speed is more than triple what it was before for download and double the speed for upload (Download Speed: 6805 kbps (850.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1479 kbps (184.9 KB/sec transfer rate) ) the modem switch. While I never felt my internet was slow everything is even more instantaneous. Sending emails with several 10 meg pictures used to take awhile, now its a blink.

6.2 Mbps DSL from a phone cooperative in a town of 1500 people and the nearest city (40,000 people) 80 miles away.

Not sure why my ISP limits the upload to 768kbs....

RoadRunner gave me a Motorola SURFboard 4200 but I'd like to get soemthing that handles the gigabit range to go along with the NetGear 3700 I just bought. DAMN....just remembered, I'd have to get a new computer that can handle gigabit too.
