Without knowing any more I say to try moving closer to the wall; I'd start at 2-˝ feet. Angle one speaker at your ear and the other just outside your other ear.

Maybe you can put the casters on? That should make it simple. Otherwise I've used carpet glides with a quarter between each one and its spike.

That's excellent advice! I watched my Maxx 3's setup in my room which is 20'X15' and that's where they started and would listen and moved inch at a time.

I have a small Hifi rack in the middle against the front wall. The TV is mounted on the wall above that. I have some acoustic treatment (traps/ panels) and have gone as far as is practically possible with the room layout/ furniture/ treatment. The listening position is 3 ft away from the back wall.

As mentioned the overall sound quality is very good but still lacks some bass energy below 60hz (there is a marked dip around 45hz) - the acoustic treatment has helped but not eliminated this issue so speaker placement (or new kit) is the last option otherwise I live with it.

When you all talk about the distance from the wall, are you talking about the rear or front of the speaker from the wall?

I believe we are all talking about the distance between the rear corner of the speaker closest to the wall (after toe in) and the wall.

I meant the rear of the speaker - but I measure from the centre rather than the inner corner.

Have you found the zone of neutrality as mentioned in the OM? The voice must sound natural. Then the bass. Then the fine tuning for sound-stage, imaging, etc.

I'm happy with 1 and 3 but not 2. I didn't spend enough time positioning them mainly because they came with spikes but when my carpet gliders arrive I will do it properly. I have spent a lot of time listening to them in the current position so it should be obvious if there's an improvement.

After finding the zone of voice neutrality, I would begin with the speaker as close to the rear wall as possible while maintaining neutrality. This will usually give the most bass. Once achieving the most generous bass, next is the sound stage and imaging. It is very important to eliminate slap echo from the room. I have spent hundreds of dollars (probably 2,500 minimum) on passive sound treatments to completely eliminate slap echo. This has a tremendous effect on the voice, sound stage and imaging, but no effect on bass. But it gives you more room to maneuver to achieve the best bass, if you are confident slap echo has been eliminated.
